In a thrilling finish at Gosford Racecourse, Barber, a former Godolphin sprinter now under the ownership of Monarch Racing Syndications, clinched victory in the Listed $250,000 Takeover Target Stakes (1200m). This win marks a significant milestone for Monarch Racing, a burgeoning syndication enterprise led by Jason and Tahlia Micallef.

From Godolphin to Gosford Glory

Barber, a four-year-old gelding by Exceed And Excel out of Trim, was acquired by Monarch Racing for $215,000 through the Inglis Digital December Sale. Previously trained by James Cummings. Barber had notable successes as a juvenile, including wins in the $1 million Golden Gift and the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude. His transition to Richard Litt’s stable has been fruitful, with a commendable third-place finish at Canterbury preceding this stakes victory.

Gritty Performance in a Tough Run

The race unfolded with Barber, ridden by Tyler Schiller, facing a challenging run, remaining three-wide throughout.Despite this, he demonstrated resilience, engaging in a fierce duel with Brudenell in the home straight. Barber’s tenacity prevailed, securing the win by a narrow margin, with Spacewalk finishing third.

Trainer Richard Litt expressed his satisfaction, noting Barber’s toughness and the rewarding outcome for Monarch Racing. He acknowledged the successful acquisition of ex-Godolphin horses. Highlighting Barber’s potential for future Group 1 races, including nominations for the Doomben 10,000 and the Stradbroke Handicap.
