Not only January is one of the most exciting months for breeders, bloodstock agents, and trainers alike. It was also a monumental time for Stridyl as two of our foals featured in our Paddock to Post documentary, sold at the Magic Millions yearling sale on the Gold Coast. It has been 18 months since we started to document the formative education and development stages of a select group of thoroughbred foals. The yearlings sold were both born and raised by two of the leading breeding farms in the Hunter Valley of Australia. They have now been purchased by some of the industry’s best judges who will continue their care, education, and training toward the goal of becoming a thoroughbred racehorse.
Lot 4 Brutal x Janast Colt

In Episode 1 of Paddock to Post, we first met this colt as a 60-day-old foal. We heard from the managing director of Newgate Farm, Henry Field. He talked us through the stallion selection, his development, and how they educate a young thoroughbred to become a racehorse. In episode 3 we followed the Magic Millions bloodstock team as they inspected him prior to the sale. Magic Millions Bloodstock Manager Dane Robinson spoke to Stridyl to explain the auction house’s ethos and selection processes. Stridyl was onsite at the Magic Millions complex. We documented the Brutal/Janast Colt parading for the wider buying bench who were looking to inspect the colt as a viable target. It’s such an extraordinary event to witness him develop from a foal into a yearling, about to embark on the next chapter of his career. He was sold on day one for $210,00 and purchased by Anthony Freedman Racing with the assistance of Julian Blaxland & Rogers Bloodstock for Roll the Dice Racing. We can’t wait to continue to follow his career in the coming months.
Lot 495 Written Tycoon x Total Attraction Colt

Our second Paddock to Post foal sold on day three of the sale was Lot 495 Written Tycoon x Total Attraction colt from the Segenhoe Stud draft.
This colt features in episodes 1,2 & 3. We witnessed him foaling down at Segenhoe Stud and have continued to document his development right up to when he walked out of the sales ring at Magic Millions. Stud Master Peter O’Brien and assistant Stud Manager Brian Clarke have given us tremendous insights into every development stage of his life in all three episodes. We witnessed the first few hours of his life, before being inspected and selected by Magic Millions for their flagship yearling sale. This colt was so impressive that he was purchased for $550,000 by Kia Ora Stud who will place him into the care of one of Australia’s leading trainers. You will be able to watch both of these colts’ Magic Millions experiences in Episode 4 which will be available in February.
