Dubai Duty-Free Shergar Cup History
The Shergar Cup, held annually at Ascot Racecourse in England, is a unique event that brings together top jockeys from around the world. Competing in teams representing different regions, these jockeys showcase their skills in a series of thrilling races. However, for Rachel, the Shergar Cup is more than just a competition. It’s also an opportunity to represent the Rest of The World Team and compete on a global stage. There will be four teams competing:
- Europe Team
- Great Britain & Ireland Team
- Ladies Team
- Rest Of The World Team
Rest Of The World Team
The Rest of the World will feature a full team of female jockeys for the first time this year, two of whom are Shergar Cup debutantes. Rachel has been chosen to captain this year’s team, the team will be as follows:
- Rachel King (Captain, Australia)
- Rachel Venniker (South Africa)
- Nanako Fujita (Japan)
How The Meeting Works
The event was championed by the British Horseracing Board chairman Peter Savill, to create a competition similar to the Ryder Cup in golf. The card will host 6 races ranging from 5 furlongs to 2 miles. Each Jockey will have five rides. and each team will have two or three team members riding in each race. The team with the highest points is the winner, with points for the first five places. For example, 1st -15, 2nd -10, 3rd -7, 4th- 5, and 5th – 3.
Rachel’s Rides
The rides are drawn to give fairness to each team therefore they all have an opportunity to ride a certain calibre of mount.
