Royal Ascot Bound

With the Autumn Carnival in the rearview mirror, we look ahead at one of the most exciting racing carnivals in the Northern Hemisphere.

You will be pleased to know that Stridyl will again be present in the UK for the British Racing season keeping our audience up to date with the Australian runners. Last year we had the privilege of documenting ArtoriusWe captured his first look at the course proper at the media morning at Ascot as well as his final gallop with Jockey Jamie Spencer. You can find the full feature in our entertainment library.

Australia’s Best

We are just short of twelve months since we witnessed Nature Strip obliterate his opponents in the Group 1 King Stand Stakes. Now, we have an array of sprinters chomping at the bit to place their hoof on Royal Ascot’s prestigious turf. Unfortunately, Anamoe has hung up his race plates for the last time and will not be taking his place on the flight bound for the UK. He has been retired to stud for a whopping fee of $121,000.

Artorius

Artorius is returning to Ascot to take his place in the Group 1 Platinum Jubilee after his luckless third placing at last year’s meeting. Some would say he was a victim of his own racing pattern. But he was gallant in defeat and you can only imagine that he will meet them better again with the previous year’s experience under his belt. It has been announced that Artorius will retire to Newgate Stud Farm this year, standing for a stud fee of $27,500. In nine out of his eleven Group 1 runs, he has run the fastest 600m. That includes faster than Anamoe in the Caulfield Guineas & Home affairs, in the Coolmore. Jockey James McDonald has been secured for the ride.

The Astrologist

The Astrologist has already arrived in the UK post his slashing second in the Group 1 Al Quoz in Dubai. He is currently housed at the Marco Botti stables and is preparing for his Royal Ascot campaign. At this stage, we may be lucky enough to see him race twice at Royal Ascot with both the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes and the Group 1 King Stand Stakes in his sights. Jockey Damian Lane has been booked.

Cannonball

James Harron announced last week that Cannonball will also be chasing world-stage success in the Group 1 King Stand Stakes. Earlier in the year the three-year-old colt changed stables from Anthony and Sam Freedman to join Peter and Paul Snowden. The change in postcodes has been successful. Since his arrival in Sydney, he has won the Group 3 Maurice McCarten stakes and placed in the Group 1 Galaxy Stakes. Harron’s racing and breeding decisions are never taken lightly. Considering Cannonball will be representing Harron’s stallion Capitalist you can only imagine that he will make a big impact on the race. Neither Harron nor the Snowden stable are leaving anything to chance and they have quickly announced they have secured jockey Brett Prebble for the campaign.

Looking for a Capitalist yearling?

If you are in the market for a Capitalist Filly then make sure you check out our Marketplace where Tricolours Racing & Syndications currently has a filly available with Annabel Neasham.

Coolangatta

Coolangatta looks like she was made for Royal Ascot. The daughter of Written Tycoon has been forever consistent throughout her racing preparations and her win in the Group 1 Lightning stakes only confirmed where she should head next. The relationship between Lightning Stakes winners and Royal Ascot winners is a solid one. Six Lightning stakes winners have all secured their position in the Royal Ascot winner’s enclosure, Choisir (2003), Takeover Target (2006), Miss Andretti (2007), Scenic Blast (2009), Black Caviar (2012) and Nature Strip (2022). Coolangatta will take her place in the Group 1 King Stand Stakes.

Stridyl is delighted to partner with Maher and Eustace Racing and we will be capturing her full Royal Ascot campaign.

Magic Millions

All of the above contenders were purchased from the Magic Millions lucrative Yearling sale held in January on the Gold Coast. Interestingly enough they were all purchased from NSW stud farms.
