We take a look at  great value Spring Carnival contenders. Our friends and podcast creators at The Mock Sports have given us an insight into their best bets this spring. Have a gander and let us know what you think.

Coolmore Stud Stakes – Ozzmosis – $8

This is a horse we think has a ginormous future ahead of him. Spotted at the 2022 First Juvenile Trials for his electric speed, this Bjorn Baker-trained colt was the talk of the town. However, an injury meant he couldn’t show the world what he had under the hood until the 2023 Winter Carnival. With two incredibly impressive wins that have caught the attention of both the public and breeders alike. He is being set for the Coolmore Stud Stakes down the Flemington Straight. Quite honestly we think he should be half this price. If he has progressed any further in size, strength, and most importantly speed, he will be a force to be reckoned with. Great Value.

The Metropolitan- Cleveland- $15

Big weight, plus first up off a bleed without a trial was always going to have the Kris Lees trained import at a disadvantage first up in the Premier’s Plate. However, he still managed to close off very nicely and snag a top 4 spot, only a couple of lengths off the finish. We think he is definitely one that punters should follow. Especially considering the immense potential he had coming into the Autumn Carnival under the tutelage of Joseph O’Brien. He looked phenomenal in trackwork and at the races without getting out of third gear. Unfortunately, the bleed mentioned above occurred in his Grand Final, the Sydney Cup, which means we still haven’t seen his best. He could even be a sneaky chance in the Cups this year if he so chooses to go that way. We feel like $15 is a price that certainly will not last, so it would be best to lock it in now!

The Kosciuszko – Mogo Magic – $6

A country horse owner’s dream, The Everest of the bush as some call it. The Kosciuszko is a fantastic initiative that Racing NSW puts on each and every year and it never fails to excite! This year could produce the most thrilling of the bunch. As the big boy in Orange from Goulburn, Mogo Magic could take it in an all-the-way win. At least, that’s what we believe will happen. Scott Collings could have his Shelby Sixty-Six here with Mogo Magic. He is still undefeated in all aspects of his career, both at the races and in the trials. He has been simply faultless to date and we see that continuing right through the Spring. He’s better than Bush League, he will be winning The Kosciuszko and then continue on to being a regular City customer, just like former winner, Art Cadeau.

Caulfield Cup – Without A Fight – $11

Here’s a horse that can do some serious damage this Spring if he gets a consistent run of dry tracks. We had him on top for the 2022 edition of The Melbourne Cup but unfortunately, he could not go in the wet. Come Brisbane Winter Carnival time he found his dry decks and boy did he explode. Dominant wins in 2 outings that really showed us what he is capable of. Mark Zahra was on him in both wins as well. So he might have a tough time choosing between this horse and his winning mount in last year’s cup, Gold Trip. They most likely cross paths multiple times this Spring. Unwilling to take the dive into this price for a race as unpredictable as The Melbourne Cup. However, he looks primed for a big run in The Caulfield Cup if the rain stays away.
