Getting to Know Group One Thoroughbreds
How did Group One Thoroughbreds start?
Director Jeremy Azzopardi began his racing journey in 2001 as an owner of Flaming, who went on to win the Group 3 Bill Ritchie and contest both the Epsom and Doncaster. That early taste of success sparked a long-term passion for racing and syndication.
After nearly a decade in senior management with a well-known syndicator, Jeremy launched Group One Thoroughbreds in 2018—marking a new chapter focused on owner-first experiences and hands-on horse management.
What sets your racehorse syndication model apart?
We believe racehorse ownership is about more than just raceday results. At Group One Thoroughbreds, we provide regular, honest updates and real behind-the-scenes access. Our owners are kept informed from the moment they join, with communication that’s clear, engaging, and consistent.
We also create opportunities for connection—through stable visits, race day catch-ups, and exclusive events—because ownership should be a shared journey.
What does a typical week look like for your team?
We have a full-time Racing Manager dedicated to owner communication and horse welfare. Whether it’s visiting the stables, attending trials, or managing race day logistics, they’re on hand seven days a week to ensure our updates are accurate and insightful. This boots-on-the-ground approach is a key reason owners love working with Group One Thoroughbreds.
Racehorse Ownership & Syndication Success
How do you choose horses for syndication?
At Group One Thoroughbreds, horse selection is both strategic and instinctive. We start by analysing the catalogue—pedigree, stallion performance, vendor reputation—and build a shortlist based on data. Then we inspect each horse multiple times, focusing on conformation, athleticism, movement, and temperament.
It’s not just about what looks good on paper—we’re looking for horses that feel right in person.
What’s been your biggest racehorse success story?
Le Melody is a standout. Purchased for just $16,000, she won six races and earned her spot in major races like the $2 million Kosciuszko and the Group 3 Concorde Stakes, running alongside Everest champion Bella Nipotina. A small investment, a massive return—and a perfect example of what’s possible with Group One Thoroughbreds.
How do you ensure a rewarding experience for all owners?
Whether you’re brand new or highly experienced, we treat every owner with care and respect. Our model is built on transparency, connection, and communication—core values that keep owners coming back.
The Group One Ownership Experience
What can new owners expect when joining your syndicate?
New owners with Group One Thoroughbreds can expect a welcoming, well-managed, and personalised experience. We’re passionate about what we do, and we love helping others enjoy the journey of racehorse ownership.
How do you keep people engaged across the season?
Through weekly updates, stable visits, event invitations, and strong social media activity, we make sure owners are always in the loop. It’s a team environment—and we want everyone to feel involved.
What’s the most rewarding part of racehorse ownership?
The connection—with your horse, your trainer, and your fellow owners. There’s something special about following your horse’s progress from paddock to raceday, and sharing that with a like-minded group.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Group One Thoroughbreds
What excites you about the future?

Because we care. We’re selective, strategic, and people-focused. From choosing the right horse to delivering a great ownership experience, Group One Thoroughbreds takes a hands-on approach that combines racing success with personal connection. Whether you own 5% or 50%, you’re part of the team.
